Today is the last day of school. Your child's report card envelope is coming home today.
Inside the envelope is a Summer Journal notebook which can be used as a reading log, a diary of special summer memories, a vacation log or any other way you can think of. There is also a summer reading calendar for your child use to keep track of the days they read for at least 15 minutes. Both the journal and the reading calendar are optional. They are being provided to you for enrichment purposes. The journal and calendars can be sent into school in the fall as a way for your child to share their work with next year's teacher.
You are all on your way to second grade. Thank you for a wonderful year. You were a great class and I will miss seeing you every day next year.
Have a terrific summer with your families.
Enjoy the summer weather, hang out with your friends and family and
READ, READ, READ, READ, READ, READ!
Make sure you visit me next year!

Missing Book
Darien Library Summer Programs
I stopped into the Darien Library yesterday. The Children's Librarian was telling me about their summer reading program. There are many events scheduled throughout the summer. There is a brochure which you can pick up at the library or go to their website: www.darienlibrary.org for more information.

Sunsational Summer Reading
The last week of June we will winding down our first grade year and getting ready for some summer fun. To get into the mood for summer reading, I am asking each student to bring in a towel/blanket, favorite books, sunglasses and a hat/visor. We will take advantage of the warm weather and spend some time reading in the great outdoors around our school.

Beach Trip is Cancelled

In Case of Rain...
We are scheduled to go to the beach tomorrow. The weather is not looking so good. A final decision will be made tomorrow morning. I will do an all class email in the morning to let everyone know the status of the trip.
In the event that we get rained out, all students should come to school. They can still dress in their beach attire since tomorrow the Student Council is sponsoring a 'Tropical Island Day'.
We will have an indoor picnic in our classroom. The kids can bring in a towel/blanket to sit on while eating their lunches. If we can't get to the beach we can at least pretend! Lunch food items should be dropped off at 11:30 to the classroom.
Thank you for your cooperation with this. Hopefully the weather will change and we won't have to make changes, but I'd rather be prepared.
Cheers to Our Moms
