Puppet Shows

After doing a unit of study on Characters in Reading Workshop, our class worked in groups to put on a puppet show.  Each group had to select a story, design and make puppets and perform for the class.  The shows were wonderful and creative!

Mystery Reader #19

TB was surprised when his dad came to our classroom to be a Mystery Reader.  He read a great book called "Michael Recycle".

Peek at the Week of April 19-23

Welcome back from Spring Break!  I hope everyone had a fun time with their families.

The time after April vacation always seems to fly.  There are so many traditional year-end activities that happen during the last 2 months of school.  Here is the list of what I have so far for your calendar planning:

Peek at the Week of April 5-9

This is the final week before Spring Break and I can tell that everyone is excited to enjoy some sunshine (fingers crossed).

We are collecting pennies for the Pennies for Patients program which supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  For more information about this program:  http://www.schoolandyouth.org/

Reading Workshop:  We will continue working with our character clubs this week.  Each group will be making some puppets and present a puppet show for the class.

Writing Workshop: We are very lucky to have 2 authors visiting this week, a poet and a story writer.  This will be helpful as we work on our realistic fiction writing.

Math:  We are starting Unit 8:  Working with Numbers and Operations.  Some strategies we will be learning/reviewing are using doubles plus 1 (ex:  for 4+5 think about it as 4+4 and add on 1)and doubles plus 2 (ex: 4+6 think 4+4 and all on 2).  Also this week we will be solving for a missing addend (ex:  5+___=8.  How can you figure that out?)
