Peek at the Week October 21-25

STEM Moving Museum
Our class will be attending this in-school enrichment activity Tuesday afternoon.

Hearing and Vision Screening
Our school nurse will be doing screenings on our class this Wednesday.

Halloween
Halloween is next week and it's the talk of the town!  First graders can wear costumes to school on Halloween day.  We will watch the Kindergarteners parade through the school next week.

Math Workshop
We have been exploring the concept of number combinations.  We have used cubes and other items to "act out" number stories.  Showing the answer using pictures, words, and numbers has also been a focus.

Reading Workshop
We continue to be 'Word Detectives' by learning and using the following strategies:
-look at the picture
-look at the first letter
-does this make sense?  (*This is a BIG one!)
-reread to get a "running start"
-look for a chunk

Writing Workshop
Last week we were introduced to the concept of a "How To" book.  We discussed that a How To book is written to teach the reader how to do something.  We will be using special vocabulary like first, next, then, last
