Welcome to the last week of first grade! The last day of school is Thursday, June 14th. This will be an Early Dismissal day.
Report cards will be sent home on Thursday. The report card envelope has some important papers in it. Please take a few minutes to go through the paperwork.
Last week I started sending home some of your children's work. This week some more things will be coming home. There will be some unfinished things (math book, 100 Things About Me, Math Fast Facts, etc). I have told the children that any unfinished work can be worked on during the summer months.
They have really enjoyed reading through their old Writing Workshop stories and Reading Workshop binders. Many conversations started with, "I didn't even know how to spell when." or "Look at my handwriting. It's much better now." I think it is great for them to notice their own growth...they have much to be proud of!
There is a black & white composition book that will be sent home this week (aka Summer Journal). I have made up some categories for reading and writing. Some of the pages are for list making (Authors I Like, Places to Read, etc). Other topics have many pages in their section because it is designed to give them multiple pages to write on (My Summer News, Summer Memories, etc.).
I hope everyone has a safe, happy and healthy summer. I'm sure I'll bump into many families over the summer.
This class has had a terrific year.
Thank you for a wonderful year!
