We had a great time sharing our puppet shows with the Kindergarten classes. The K kids really liked our puppets, scenery, and acting.

Butterflies!

A few weeks ago we had a great visit by an educator from the Bruce Museum. She taught us about the butterfly life cycle and the body parts of the butterfly.

I hope everyone has enjoyed a nice Memorial Day weekend.  This is the last week of May and we are starting to think ahead to being second graders.  It is a very exciting time.

Thank you for coming to our Poet Palooza.  We loved having such supportive audience members!  Between our musical and our poetry reading many kids have caught the acting bug!

This will be a 4-day school week.  We will have our May Pep Rally this Friday. 

This is our second to last week of homework and spelling tests!  Next Friday, June 7th will be the last day of homework and weekly assessments.  Reading on a daily basis should continue, of course!

This Friday, May 24th is Patriotic Day here at Ox Ridge.  Show your spirit by wearing red, white, and blue.

There is no school this upcoming Monday, May 27th in honor of Memorial Day.

It's showtime!  Our class will join the other first grade classes in performing our musical called "How Does Your Garden Groove?"  There is singing and dancing and a whole lot of fun.  Join us if you can on Thursday, May 16th at 2:30 in the Common Room.

Character Clubs

In Reading Workshop we have been working in groups. Each group has been studying a popular series character. Our BIG project is going to be to create and perform a puppet show. Here are some pictures of a few groups planning out their scenery and puppets.

Peek at the Week of May 6-12

This week we will begin practicing for our upcoming musical.  Everyone is very excited for this grade level event.

Our class will be going to the book fair on Monday from 11:00-11:20.  This will be our chance to preview the books and create a Wish List.

We will be having an in-class program on the life cycle of the butterfly.  This program is funded by the PTO enrichment donations.  It is a great program to kick off this unit.  We will be getting REAL caterpillars next week.
