Peek at the Week of March 31-April 4

The BIG happening this week is our class poetry reading show called Poet Palooza!  Each child selected two of their favorite poems to share.  Friends and family are invited to attend this Friday, April 4th at 10:00am.  It's a quick show; I'd estimate it to be a half hour, so do your best to arrive on time...otherwise you may miss it!

Volunteers from the  DEAG (Darien Environmental Awareness Group) will be coming in to do a program on "precycling".  This program will be on Wednesday.  This is a good introduction to our upcoming Earth Day project.

Correction to last week's blog:  I had listed the wrong month for the Three Piggie Opera.  It's not until May 16th.  I had typed April by accident.  I apologize if there was any confusion.  I need to follow my own teaching and reread my writing before publishing!

Springtime Gardening

Our class was put in charge of planting celery seeds in the school garden. Two garden club moms came in and taught us how to plant seeds. These seeds will be kept in the library where there is lots of sun. When it warms up the seedlings will be planted outside.

Peek at the Week of March 24-28

It looks like it is going to be a regular school week...my favorite kind of week!

Writing Workshop
The big excitement will be preparing for our upcoming poetry show.  This is our final week of writing poems.  Each child will select their two best/favorite poems for the big show.

Reading Workshop
We will be getting ready for our upcoming unit on reading non-fiction.  This will require some very careful book selection for our "just right" book bins.  The classroom library has MANY non-fiction books, and it is important to find books that match our interests and levels.   We will be "reading like a scientist".

Math Workshop
We will continue to work on Unit 6.   This week we will be making combinations of 10.  We will also explore why the number 10 is so important because it helps us to add larger numbers more quickly.
